Privacy Screen Project - Final reveal

Aubrey finished the three privacy screens in our backyard today. Yippee!

One is in the very far left (hard to see), one the middle, and one closest to us in the photo. They are evenly spaced through the garden. This actually concludes all projects in the yard, except for landscaping with plants or adding in other "pre-bought" items. No more building in the garden. :)

081>

To recap, we wanted to build these privacy screens in our backyard for the following reasons
(a) to hide the chain link fence. (Bleh, I think it's ugly)
(b) to get some privacy from our neighbours garden and
(c) to add some more weight to this side of the garden, as the other side got a full fence last summer. It seemed "uneven" to have all the wood on one side of the yard.

You see, we did ask this neighbour if she would ever be interested in a fence, and she said no, as a fence would cast shade on her lawn. So we went this route, as the privacy screens don't cast little shade (if any) on her lawn, but are a nice visual interest for us.

024
They were easy enough to create, and the three in total cost around $300. We don't have full privacy from the other yard, it will take some more plants and another summer of the existing plans I planted to grow in, but it's a step in the right direction.

To remind you, this is what our garden looked like when we bought it. (I was deseperately trying to fix the lawn as you can see)

And this is where we are at now...

Enjoy!

Love it! Just the visual interest alone is worth the money, but in years to come the privacy will be invaluable. Great job!

Wonderful space and idea! I'm a big fan of your blog and I love everything you've posted so far.I check it everyday to see if there's something new... Just a question: what colour did you use on your walls? I went to Benjamin Moore's store and got some samples, but is really hard to find the perfect white.
By the way, allow me to say that your little angel is soooo adorable! Congratulations!

Very nice! A huge change from the start, and a very clever solution that keeps both you and your neighbour happy. A good move!

They look amazing! I would love these screens on our backurad along our fence and ours in all fenced in would love a how to, pretty please!! btw your backyard resemble a garden now!

Maggie Rose said...

They make a big difference in hiding that awful fence! Once the greenery fills in it will be an entirely new space.

The contrast of before-and-after is really outstanding! What a great place for your little family to spend these summer days!

Macy Dawn said...

Yay! I had been waiting to see how these turned out...they look fabulous! And your backyard is beautiful with all the new plant growth! This makes me feel so far behind on my own yard plans.

Heather said...

Wow, what a difference from your before and after. Great job!

Lindsay said...

Thank you so much! We love it, and it makes for some awesome architectual interest now in the garden, and I feel as though the garden is less lot sided. I think once the plants grow in more it will be even better -

Mrs Chic - I'll totally compile a how to for you. It's super easy, but I say that and Aubrey is the one that did all the work. ;)

Totty - no dog in our house - I don't think that the grass would have grown in so much had we had a 4 legged friend! ;)

Wow, what a transformation. I love the privacy screens and am contemplating putting some up in our yard once our deck gets built.

Come on, deck, get built!

:) I'm new to your blog but love what I see so far.

P.S. I love your post about the hydrangeas and couldn't agree more about loving them in a front yard. So homey and pretty. Our front yard currently has 9 of them!

Looks fantastic - the screens are great - I just moved into a home w/chain link fence in the backyard that I'd like to cover a bit.

Did you buy these premade or built them? Can you give specifics on how you made them? We are dealing with trashy new neighbors who have turned their backyard into a parking garage.

Woah! I'm really loving the template/theme of this site. It's simple,
yet effective. A lot of times it's tough to get that "perfect balance" between user friendliness and visual appeal. I must say that you've done a great job with this.
Additionally, the blog loads super fast for me on Opera. Outstanding Blog!

Hi. I noticed your blog title, "Blogger: Aubrey & Lindsay's Little House Blog" does not really reflect
the content of your internet site. When composing your site title,
do you believe it's most beneficial to write it for Website positioning or for your audience? This is something I've
been struggling with mainly because I want good search rankings but at the same
time I want the best quality for my site visitors.
