The adventures of Sunday morning

Sunday morning started a wee bit earlier than we had anicipated so we packed into the car and headed to the Sunday Antique Market at the St. Lawrence Market. Aubrey works Sundays, and so with only a few remaining Sundays off before he goes back to work, we decided to make it an outing. It was so muggy out, but we had fun with Starbucks in hand.

We found this huge gold frame that was originally $45 - but she reduced it to $30 that morning (or so she said), and I nicely bargained it to $15. We liked it, made an offer, and ta-da, we walked away with it.

I thought that it would be awesome as a chalkboard/bulletin board, you can never have too many of those. And for $15, it was hard to pass up. We get it back to the car and Aubrey puts his Tetris skills to use. The picture actually says alot about the day.

(1) Aubrey realizing that this may be a bit trickier than we thought (2) Our new acquisition (3) Our new car. We're now a 4 door family, and the Mini Cooper went bye-bye. It was so ackward getting in a car seat into a 2 door car. (4) Quilt/Duvet that I stole (temporarily) from the cottage to see if the colour was right. It wasn't. So it was in the car to be returned to my Mom (5) Oscar - the reason why we were up so early, fell asleep again the minute we got into the car, and for 4 hours after. *sigh* (6) What we needed to stay awake (7) My favourite blankets (found here)

Anyhow, we did get it home.

The kitchen is a possible place.

Or in my office.

I'm sure it will move around until it finds the perfect home. ;)

That frame is amazing! I can't believe you got it for $15. I'm not sure the size of your TV or where you have it housed, but Brooklyn Limestone used a similar frame to frame out her TV and it looks awesome! I hunted for a frame for ours but was never able to find a cheap one like yours!

You know, my wedding picture was in a frame just like that and years later I 'updated' it with a much simpler one and threw the original out. Wish I'd kept it!

Congrats on a great find! I'm sure it'll look fantastic wherever you decide to put it. I agree with In the Tweeds, the one Brooklyn Limestone put around their tv did look amazing.

Once again you have inspired me to go somewhere to shop antiques! I have been wanting to go the St. Lawrence Market on Sundays for a while now and I am definitely going soon! And what a great deal on that amazing frame!

you can use the frame and hang textural element in it- ie. during xmas season, a bundle of ornaments tied with a ribbon..i saw something on a blog and it looked great, but was in a smaller scale...i hope to find it and send to you

Ugh, I suck at bargaining. Please enlighten us with your bargaining skills! I can't believe you got that fabulous frame for only $15!

i have the same piece of foam {sleeping mat} and massive roll of batting laying in my office right now waiting to be transformed into a window seat for the nursery... funny.

It's GORGEOUS and would have been a deal at $30! Can't wait to see where it ends up :)

Oh my, my barganing skills aren't refined at all! I wish I could give you some pointers. Basically my rule of thumb is to be respectful and kind to the sellers. But I try to be like that at any retail, as having worked retail & at tradeshows, I know what it's like standing behind a booth for hours.

Before Aubrey I never would have asked anyone for a better price - I would have been too shy. But I've learnt that at Antique Markets they actually expect you to bargain. If I see something I like, and the price is reasonable, I sometimes say..."Is there a bit of a better price that you can do?" This way they will knock it down a little. Othertimes, if I have a set price I want to spend, I'll ask them if they will take X amount. The worst they can say is no. The middle ground is that they may give you a little bit of a better price and meet you 1/2 way, and in the odd occasion they say yes.

In this case, I knew I had a $10 and $5 bill in my wallet and showed her - I then asked if she'd take $15. It never hurts to ask. The seller was REALLY sweet, so it was an easy transaction. I think it was the Antique Gods up above repaying me for my patience with Oscar earlier that morning. (Hence multiple cups o' coffee)
